Ustadh, I have a question. If a woman admires a righteous man, is it permissible for her to express her interest in a modest and indirect way—such as hinting to him—and also inform her father or guardian about him so that the matter can be approached properly?

Maybe he wouldn't understand the hinting. He can be approached, inshaAllah. This is what the Sahaba did: they approached the righteous man for their sisters, their daughters, etc.
