أحسن الله إليكم Sheikh, a brother asks: what's the ruling on a person who says umrah is a waste of money and should save for hajj. Does hajj take precedence over umrah?

Umrah is a legislated worship and the Prophet ﷺ said that one umrah to the next is an expiation for what is between them (agreed upon), so it is not a waste of money and speaking of it that way is gravely dangerous; we should never belittle an act of worship that Allah has legislated even if we did not mean it this way it still sounds like it. Hajj does come first, it is a pillar of Islam and its obligation is greater than that of umrah, so whoever has not yet performed the obligatory Hajj and has money enough for only one begins with Hajj. Some scholars considered Umrah to be obligatory once in a lifetime as well.
