أحسن الله إليكم Sheikh, if I stopped talking to a friend because they weren’t a good person, can I say that or something similar to anyone who asks me if I still talk to them or would this be backbiting?

Don't say that unless there is a real, necessary benefit—not just saying it for the sake of saying it. So, if somebody is asking because they don't know the reality of that person and you don't want them to get harmed or for him to be a bad influence on them, then you can share with them. But if that's not the case and there is no need or benefit like that, then do not say so.
