i want to make dua for my father but i dont know if hes muslim or not, i never saw him praying salah and i dont know exactly how his stands are on islam. is it okay to make dua and give/respond to salam as i dont want to fall into sin, i dont wanna make takfir either when i dont have the proper ilm

Ask Allah to guide him, as for salam u can give and reply to salam.
