Ahsana ilaykum ustadh, I am a student struggling with understanding, memorisation and consistency in my islamic studies as well as worldly. If I make dua before every time I study because I sincerely need help from Allah with it, am I committing an innovation? If so, are there any alternatives?

Asking Allah for help with your studies is good, but do not tie a fixed dua to every study session, Instead ask Allah for it in sujood, before the salam, in the last part of the night, and in other times as well.
