What is the explanation for these words and is this authentic? Prophet ﷺ said: Expiation for every argument/dispute is two units (of prayer).

That wording is not established with this reference; the narration that circulates is that the expiation for every quarrel is two rakahs, and while al-Albani graded its chain hasan, al-Iraqi, al-Haythami and others weakened it. What is established in this subject is his ﷺ saying that he guarantees a house in the outskirts of Jannah for whoever abandons arguing even when he is in the right (graded hasan li ghayrihi by al-Albani raḥimahullāh), and al-mira is arguing to make your own word win rather than to reach the truth.
