How to react when a non-Muslim talks negatively about the ummah (a coworker was saying he knows some Muslims who drink and smoke and that they’re fake in their religion). I felt bad when he said this. We work together and are friends but I feel like he crossed a line there.

Be very careful from these generalizations. There is a lot of goodness in this ummah and more and more people are turning towards Allah and seeking knowledge.
