what is the proof from the quran or sunnah for this defintion? Al-Ibādah (Worship): is a comprehensive name encompassing everything that Allah Loves and is Pleased with of sayings and actions hidden and apparent.

Ustadh AbdulAziz al-Haqqan
The proof is that Allah created us for worship, as He says, the meaning of which is: and I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me (al Dhariyat 56). Then throughout the Quran He shows what this worship is by naming what He loves and is pleased with, and its opposite by naming what He hates. He says, the meaning of which is: and do good, for Allah loves the doers of good (al Baqarah 195), and likewise He loves the pious, the just, and those who turn to Him in repentance and purify themselves. On the other side He tells us He does not approve of disbelief for His creation (al Zumar 7), and He does not love the disbelievers or the corrupt. So worship is the sum of everything Allah loves and is pleased with, of sayings and actions, inward and outward, and whatever He hates is its opposite. This is why Shaykh al Islam Ibn Taymiyyah gathered it all into this one comprehensive definition.
