Can we fast on Fridays?

Imam Ibn Baz said: It is not permissible to deliberately single it out for fasting. The Messenger ﷺ forbade that — he forbade singling out Friday for fasting. However, if a person fasts Friday along with Saturday, or along with Thursday, then there is no harm. Likewise, if he fasts it as part of making up missed fasts from Ramadan, or as part of a voluntary fast, then there is no harm. Or if he fasts it because it coincides with the Day of ‘Arafah — not because it is Friday — but rather because it happened to fall on the Day of ‘Arafah, then he may fast it. Similarly, if he has to make up missed fasts and is only able to do so on a Friday, not because it is Friday per se, but because that is the only day available to him, then he is excused.
