Salamu Alaikoum Ustaadh, How should a brother handle a situation where he is trying to practice more and seek knowledge, but his spouse has no interest in seeking knowledge and sees him as “too extreme”? He feels it is also affecting his deen and reducing his seeking of knowledge.

This situation is one many of us find ourselves in. The moment you start seeking knowledge and rectifying yourself, you may see your own family—whether it is parents, spouses, brothers, sisters, friends, or close ones—turning against you, turning on you, or moving away from you. Do not let this discourage you. Keep in mind that you are following the path of the Messenger ﷺ, the companions, the tabi'een, the tabi'at-tabi'een, and the salaf al-salih. You are upon this road, chasing the most precious thing anybody can chase in this life: your hereafter and the knowledge of your religion—the message that the Messenger ﷺ came to deliver. If you want rectification, perhaps you can turn her around by the will of Allah through: 1. Leniency, good manners, and good treatment 2. Making dua for her 3. Showing her certain lectures or things she might be interested in 4. Providing little booklets So baby steps is what i am saying. Basically, do not overwhelm her, even by the very least tiny bit.
