Is it a sunnah to say the Athan into the ear of a new born baby or is this an innovation? I have heard it is an bidah however my wife's family insist it is not since the Prophet SAW did so into the ear fo Hussain.

Some scholars say that it is legislated that you do so. However, Imam al-Albani later on found out that the hadith is weak, and therefore we cannot act upon it.
