In terms of maintaining ties of kinship what is the exact hierarchy, are your grandparents or siblings higher in priority and what exactly counts as maintaining ties with extended family (keeping contact weekly or monthly or only during occasions when they’re sick for example)?

Ustadh AbdulAziz al-Haqqan
Imam Ibn Baz (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "All relatives are considered kin (Rahm), but the closest among them are the ascendants and descendants: fathers, mothers, grandfathers, grandmothers, children, and their children. These are the closest of kin. Then come the siblings, followed by their children. Then come the paternal uncles and their children, and so forth, in order of closeness. This is why, when a questioner asked the Prophet (ﷺ), 'O Messenger of Allah, whom should I be most dutiful to?', he replied, 'Your mother.' The man asked, 'Then who?' He replied, 'Your mother.' The man asked, 'Then who?' He replied, 'Your mother.' The man asked, 'Then who?' He replied, 'Your father, then the next closest relative, and the next.' Therefore, maintaining family ties should be prioritized according to closeness. This connection is maintained through financial support, kind words, visiting, good manners, and inquiring about their well-being. All of these are forms of upholding family ties. Praise be to Allah. Yes."
