Assalam Alaikum Wa rahmatullahi Wabarakatuh Sheikh I have always wondered about the backlash in regard to Shaykh Muhammad Abdul ibn Wahab, I have seen that many attribute him to khawarij movements, yet I do not understand the reasoning. The word "Wahabi" is used as a derogatory term as well.

This type of harm happens to those who follow the way of the Messenger. The role model and biggest example is the Messenger (peace be upon him) himself. He was called crazy, he was called a sorcerer, and he was called so many names in order to disregard his dawah to Allah. Therefore, we should not pay attention to nicknames, but pay attention to the essence itself: 1. What is being taught? 2. Is it the Quran and the Sunnah? 3. Does it go along with the Quran and the Sunnah with the understanding of the Salaf? 4. Or does it contradict it? This is what really matters and is taken into consideration, not just names and nicknames. Anybody can do that in order to push people away from the truth.
