I seek your guidance. Some friends suggest reading non Muslim books in Business & selfdevelopment saying Muslim scholars have not written much in this field.I am concerned about harmful ideas. Should we avoid such books, or benefit with caution if nothing contradicts our deen?Jazakum Allahu Khayran

Ustadh AbdulAziz al-Haqqan
In regards to Islamic business, the scholars have written extensively on this matter. This shows that the person who gave you advice is totally ignorant in this area, and when someone is ignorant, they should not be giving advice. As for self-development, it puzzles me how anyone could say nobody has written on the subject. We have the best works you could possibly name regarding: 1. Good manners 2. Character 3. Consistency 4. Focus 5. Seeking knowledge 6. Not wasting etc These were written by the people of Ilm (knowledge). I can recommend a book regarding manners by Sheikh Abdur Razzaq al-Badr called "The Ahadith of Manners" (The Ahadith of Akhlaq).
