السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته, أحسن الله إليكم I've heard that qurtubi was an ashari, but I hear the people of ilm still quoting his tafsir. So can u help with the confusion.

Ustadh AbdulAziz al-Haqqan
Imam Ibn Baz, may Allah have mercy on him, said: "Likewise, the Tafsir of al-Qurtubi is a beneficial and excellent work. However, like all others, one takes from his statements what is sound and leaves what is not — whatever contradicts the evidence is to be set aside, whether it comes from al-Qurtubi, Ibn Jarir, Ibn Kathir, or anyone else. Every exegete may fall into certain errors: he may authenticate some weak hadiths, or he may question the authenticity of some sound ones — either because he spoke from memory and erred, or because he had forgotten what he had previously come to know regarding a particular hadith or ruling. Scholars of knowledge weigh what the exegetes and others have stated against the Quran and the Sunnah. Whatever accords with the truth is accepted — from al-Qurtubi and others — and whatever contradicts it is rejected. He is not infallible, nor are any other scholars, whether in the field of Quranic exegesis or otherwise. Nevertheless, his book is of immense benefit, rich in value, and he gave particular attention to evidences and legal rulings. It is an exceedingly useful work, and he was an inspired and divinely guided exegete — yet he is not infallible. From every scholar, one takes what is correct and leaves what is not. Yes." Keep in mind the people of knowledge and specialty are the ones that study wuch texts, and they choose carefully what to quote.
