In Ramadan, there is a practice called Muqabala where a hafidh recites one Juz of the Qur’an daily in the masjid while people sit and listen. This is done every Ramadan. Is this practice permissible?

They are doing this every Ramadhan, so the question is: Is this the sunnah? If so bring the hadeeth regarding it. If not, then abandon this as this would fall into bida'
