‏السلام عليكم When does persisting in a particular sin count as taking your desires as your god and thus commiting shirk ? Would the person who keeps falling into the same sins knowingly fall into that category of people? May Allah reward you for your work.

Allah the Exalted says: {Have you seen} the misguided man who {takes his own desires as his god} — meaning, whatever his desire leads him to, he follows it, whether it pleases Allah or angers Him. {So Allah left him astray knowingly} — that is, based on Allah’s knowledge that guidance does not suit him, nor would he grow or be purified by it. {And sealed his hearing} so he does not hear what benefits him, {and his heart} so he cannot understand goodness, {and placed upon his sight a veil} that prevents him from seeing the truth. {Who then can guide him after Allah?} — none can guide him once Allah has closed for him the doors of guidance and opened for him the doors of misguidance. And Allah did not wrong him; rather, he wronged himself and caused the mercy of Allah to be withheld from him. {Will you not then take heed?} — meaning: will you not remember and reflect upon what benefits you so that you follow it, and what harms you so that you avoid it?
