If one becomes muslim then doesn’t start praying for a long time (like a year or two) do the prayers need to be made up, and how does one go about making up so many prayers, does praying nafl prayers count towards missed fard prayers?

Some of the Imams like Ibn Baz and Ibn Uthaymeen mentioned that you don't make them up, but you repent to Allah sincerely and u can increase in voluntary prayers.
