I had a 50৳ note in my pocket, and I recently adjusted my pockets, and I thought that I might drop money, and coincidentally there was 50৳ on the ground, so I picked it up and turns out it wasn't mine, only realizing after I came home, and nobody knows whose it is now, what should I do?

Imam Ibn ʿUthaymīn said: > “If a person finds a lost item such as money or jewelry, then he should consider: if it is something insignificant that people normally do not care about when lost, then it becomes his and he does not need to search for its owner. However, if he knows who the owner is, he must return it to them—whether the owner asks for it or not. For example, if someone finds five riyals, which nowadays people generally don’t worry about if lost due to the abundance of wealth and blessings, then it is permissible to keep it. But if the finder knows who owns the five riyals, then it is obligatory to return it to them, whether they request it or not. However, if the found item is something valuable that people would normally care about and search for, then the finder is obligated to look for the owner for a full year. He should announce this lost item in the markets and near mosques. In the beginning, he should announce it daily, then twice a week, then once a week, then once every two weeks, and so on until the year is complete. If the year passes and no one claims it, then the item becomes his. If the item was found in a remote area—like money found along desert roads—then finding its owner might be nearly impossible, as many towns may surround the area. In such a case, it is better for the finder to give the item in charity, or hand it over to a judge, who will then dispose of it in accordance with Islamic rulings.” Source: Fatāwā Nūr ʿalā al-Darb
