Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu, is alcohol najis? a brother said that the fermented type, ya'ni wine and the likes, is najis however the medical kind is pure. is he correct? pls clarify, jazakAllahu khair

The stronger saying is the saying of some of the people of ilm that alcohol is pure (ṭāhir)—this is the view of Dāwūd al-Ẓāhirī, also held by Rabīʿah al-Ra’y, al-Layth ibn Saʿd, and al-Muzanī. This opinion is also adopted by al-Shawkānī, al-Albānī, and Ibn ʿUthaymīn.
