Asalamu Alaykum Ustadh, Why do some ulama say that wiping face is a bidah when there's sahaba doing it? (Ibn Umar Ibn Zubayr wiped their faces after dua) Adab al-Mufrad 609; Isnad Sahih according to the conditions of al-Bukhāri Fadd al-Wi'a 59; Isnäd Sahih Is it because they don't know the Hadith?

Imam Ibn Uthaymeen said: There is a difference of opinion among the scholars on this issue. Some of them said that when one finishes supplicating while raising his hands, he should wipe them over his face. They based this on a weak hadith, but Ibn Hajar (may Allah have mercy on him) said: it has multiple chains of narration that strengthen one another, and their totality indicates that it is a hasan (good) hadith. Other scholars, however, said that one should not wipe his face with his hands, as the hadiths regarding this are weak, and therefore, wiping the face with the hands would be considered an innovation (bid‘ah). This is the view of Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him). My opinion: One should not rebuke someone who wipes his face, nor should one command someone who does not wipe to do so.
