Assalamu alaykum Ahsanallahu ilaykum I count a minimum amount of istighfar on my phone for example 1000X. Once I reached that number I continue the entire day without counting anymore. So I never do istighfar until a fix number. Is this still an innovation?

Why prevent urself from goodness? Do more istighfar, may Allah reward you, even if not counted.
