ustad hafidullah If someone works in purchasing/procurement and has to negotiate late payment fees with suppliers, meaning that a clause is added to the contract stipulating that the company must pay the supplier extra money if it fails to pay within the agreed period, does this make the job haraam

A clause that adds money to a debt when payment is late is ribā, as the Permanent Committee said, and the one who agrees to pay it is a giver of ribā. So negotiating or writing this clause is not allowed, while the rest of a purchasing job that does not touch it is not haram. Keep in mind if you direct them towards it and aid in that specifically, meaning the late fees, this part is not allowed.
