i have a friend for over 12 years now from before I became muslim. Is it allowed to stay somewhat close friends. I don't know how to end this if it is haram. Also I think continuesly that im a bad muslim or munafiq how to recognize that its waswas. I can't seem to leave this feeling or un ease

Fearing that you are a munafiq is a sign of iman, not of nifāq: thirty of the Companions each feared it for himself. So, do not worry about this and carry on with your deeds. As for your friend, you may deal with a non-Muslim kindly and fairly and call him to Islam, but you do not take him as a close friend out of love and loyalty, as the Permanent Committee said. If the friend is of the opposite gender, this friendship is not allowed.
