أحسن الله إليكم، im a layman, I heard that laymen should do taqlid, as he cant weigh the evidence. How should he choose whom to follow? what about when it goes against the jamhoor? what does he do?, and what level of knowledge must he reach before he is to stop making taqlid? forgive my ignorance.

The layman asks the scholar he trusts most for knowledge and religion and acts on his answer, and he may not shop between scholars for what suits him. If his scholar’s view goes against the majority, following the majority is good but not required of him, unless a more knowledgeable scholar shows him the evidence, then he follows it. There is no fixed level: whenever the evidence on an issue becomes clear to him, he follows it, as the scholars have said.
